Wearing Your Favorite Socks Two Days in a Row

The first couple days of the week were going to be really busy. They were filled with events, activities, deadlines, and obligations. As such, on the first day, I wore one of my favorite pairs of socks. I wanted to feel extra comfort and support on a day that I anticipated being packed.
The next day, I opened my sock drawer and saw the second pair of my favorite socks, identical to the ones sitting in my hamper. I started to pick a different pair:
“Why don’t I just wear my other pair of the same favorite socks?”
“Oh well then I’d be wearing them back-to-back. Can’t wear nice socks two days in a row.”
How quickly my brain fills in nonsense.
Because why not?
Isn’t the whole point of comfort socks to exist when you need them? And also don’t washing machines exist? Won’t I be able to wear them all over again in a few days?
And also why are you rationing care? Taking care of yourself on Monday does not mean you neglect yourself on Tuesday.
I wore the socks.
This is such a relatable observation. We often save our favorite things for a “better” time, even when they’re meant to make our everyday moments more enjoyable. It reminds me of how people sometimes delay planning a birthday decoration setup because they think it has to be a huge occasion. In reality, a little joy, comfort, or celebration today can make a busy week feel much brighter. Life is meant to be enjoyed, not rationed.
