I’m staring at my makeshift stationery box. In the midst of a move, a small portion of my larger card box is currently housed in an old wireless headphone box. I was intentional with this temporary box, thinking that until I was settled and had access to the big box, I would have a collection of all the right cards for all the right occasions.
So imagine my confusion when leafing through the pile of cards I couldn’t find a birthday card. Who doesn’t include a single birthday card?
That’s how 10 minutes later I find myself writing “for being born” after the “thank you” text on the inside of a card.
It seems all I had packed was thank you cards. It seems thank you cards may be all we need.
Thank you for being born. For coming into my life when you did. For being such a profound influence on every part of who I am. For being someone who can make me smile with a memory, make me cry with appreciation. Thank you for challenging me to grow, to be better. Thank you for allowing me to do the same for you.
Thank you for inviting me to celebrate your love. I am so happy for you and your partner and I cannot wait to see what comes next for you two. Thank you for being a shining example of what healthy, honest, pure love looks like. I wish nothing but the best for your special day and all the special days that follow.
Thank you for asking for help and for allowing me to support you in this time. I hope that you begin to heal and feel better physically, mentally, spiritually. Please know that you’ve been in my thoughts and that if there is any way I can support, I will be there for you. Asking for help isn’t always easy. Thank you for trusting me with the honor of supporting someone I love.
Thank you for inspiring me. I am so proud of you for all you have accomplished and continued to achieve and I know you are bound for incredible things. I hope you know that you always have someone in your corner, cheering you on—not just in these big milestone moments, but in every minute detail of daily life.
“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.”
—Meister Eckhart
