When I share stories with my partner of pieces of my life he wasn’t present for, I wonder about the cast of characters.
When I relay a funny memory from childhood, I wonder if my neighbors know how fondly I speak of them.
When I recount something that happened in middle school, I wonder if that casual acquaintance knows what a difference they made in my life.
When I talk about my early years in New York, I wonder if those welcoming faces know just how much they meant to me.
I suppose I needn’t wonder.
I suppose I could reach out.
I have never regretted reaching out. I have never regretted a kind word. I have never regretted an “I know this is random but…”
I have never truly regretted an I love you.
So thank you to childhood neighbors. Thank you to high school crushes. Thank you to former coworkers. Thank you to people I met in passing. Thank you to everyone who made my world a little brighter… even if just for one passing season.
