Service Spotlight: Move for Two, Partners in Dance

A few weeks ago, I received one of the most delightful emails a person can get. Regular readers might remember Robyn Mays of Digital Butter, a great organization we featured in a past nonprofit resource blog post. Robyn recently connected me to Jessica Riding and Nastasha Buratovich of Move for Two, Partners in Dance, an organization doing great work in Gugulethu, Cape Town, South Africa. Without further ado, allow me to introduce their organization.

Liz: Tell me about Move for Two.

Jessica and Nastasha: Move For Two uses dance as a platform to change the lives of children living in Gugulethu, South Africa. We are passionate about creating a safe space where we get to build relationships and impart life skills towards a successful future.

Liz: What is the driving force behind what you do?

Jessica and Nastasha: Seeing growth in the children we work with. We're not just talking about dance (although it's a beautiful thing to see our children dance with all they've got) - but the growth we see in their characters, confidence, perseverance etc. It's what drives us not only to do what we do, but more importantly to keep on keeping on and remain consistent.

Liz: What does service mean to you?

Jessica and Nastasha: To us, service simply means being able to put another human being before yourself and meet them in their need.

Liz: How can people get involved?

Jessica and Nastasha: Visit our website or Instagram page to learn more.

Liz: Anything else you'd like to add?

Jessica and Nastasha: We are able to do what we do because of an incredible community of people who support this vision. We welcome anyone who would like to get involved or support us in any way. So if you are interested, we would love to hear from you!

Liz: Do you have a favorite quote you can leave us with?

“Before a child talks they sing. Before they write they draw. As soon as they stand they dance. Art is fundamental to human expression.” -Phylisia Rashad
