2020 Trades: And Everything in Between

Remember those “Eat This Not That” books that talked about healthy dietary switches? For some reason when it came time for me to reflect on my 2020 aspirations, that is what I thought of.

I wondered what small swaps I could make in my life. I thought about the times where I’d implemented specific trade offs that made me happier and healthier. I made a note in my phone to write more about this.

Trades in 2019 → 2020

I want to be bad with my phone. Better with my eye contact.

The next note is a vegan lemon bar recipe.

When I sat down to write this blog post, I laughed at my half-finished ideas and scattered note section and wondered what practical things I had wanted to focus on when I chose that topic a few weeks ago.

I’ve rewritten this next part of the blog 6 or 7 times now, first writing serious tangible trades, then writing more emotion based concepts, then doing some artistic combination of the two that got a little confusing and out of hand and then...

I want to swap in simplicity.

Disgruntled, I picked up my phone to read a text message and found I hadn’t closed the note application from earlier.

I’m not really sure what will happen this year. There are no guarantees on anything. Except this. There will be some good. There will be some bad. There will be darkness and ugliness and pain and heartache. And there will be sunrises and homemade cookies and tight hugs and new beginnings.

All I know is that I want to live as richly as possible. I want to feel all of those things as deeply as I can. I want to sit with the hurting and fly with the unstoppable. And I want to know that I can.

Maybe there are no perfect trades. Maybe 2020 is simply taking the good with the bad and feeling really grateful to experience everything in between.

Happy New Year, everyone.

Love always,

Liz
