What Gives

Elizabeth Buechele · September 27, 2026

A shower head rains water.

Something’s gotta give, I have said to myself more times than I can count. An expert at doing too much, at over-extending, at biting off more than I can chew, there are many, many moments where I find myself staring at the shower tiles, hugged by steam, wondering how sustainable this pace really is.

Recently, returning from a morning run at the park, I found myself feeling grateful for the workout I’d willed myself through. Of all the things I could be giving up on, I’m glad running isn’t one of them.

Which is really to say I’m glad I don’t give up on myself.

I’ve been recording daily joy since I was 17-years-old. It’s easy now. As routine and expected and non-negotiable as anything. But it didn’t used to be.

I made a choice. Every single day as a teenager and young adult I made a choice to keep posting. Even when it was hard. Especially when it was hard.

It’s easy to take care of yourself in the best of times. It’s how you maintain that through the worst of times that matters most.

Keep showing up for yourself, one day a time, and someday, you’ll come to realize your wellness, your joy, and your dreams are non-negotiable too.

Something may have to give. But it’s not you.

Shake it off. Begin again.
