What a Difference a Year Makes

For well over a decade now, I’ve been writing a letter on New Year’s Eve, sealing it away, and opening it 365 days later. Because I started this tradition in my teens and because I am now in my early thirties, the letters cover a lot of ground. A lot of relationships. A lot of career changes. A lot of apartments and roommates and highs and lows.
In one letter, I wrote about something challenging about a past job. In the next letter, the issue was not only resolved but the situation was wildly, positively, joyfully different. In another letter, the biggest stressor was a complete non-issue 365 days later.
Sure, things linger. Sure, areas of improvement remain.
But give yourself a chance to be surprised.
Give yourself an opportunity to be wrong about something… to be right about something… to be brave about something.
You may find the unthinkable awaits you 52 weeks down the line.
