During the Smile Project Road Trip, I found myself driving from Anacortes to Seattle, Washington with a box of Happiness Sprinkling signs from the Center for Happiness. I was to meet a woman named Angie in a mall parking to drop off the signs – a fun alternative to the post office.
Our exchange was super brief as I had to get to our Seattle service project but in our brief exchange, I knew I wanted to learn more about what she was doing. When I got back to New York, we connected again and I knew I had found a kindred spirit in her. Without further ado, allow me to introduce Angie Louthan, founder of The Kind Fest in Everett, Washington.
Liz: Let’s start in traditional Smile Project fashion – give me a Happiness is.
Angie: Happiness is doing what brings you joy in any given moment.
Liz: Tell me about The Kind Fest.
Angie: We are a festival with booths, live music, interactive experiences, and guest speakers working together to create a beautiful day where kindness gets thrown around like confetti.
Liz: What is the driving force behind what you do?
Angie: To create a kinder world. I hope to bring together all the businesses, nonprofits, leaders, and artisans who are already doing things to create a kinder world so that attendees can walk away inspired, educated, and empowered to do the same in their own way.
Liz: What does service mean to you?
