Social Activism

Social activism is an intentional action with the goal of bringing about social change. If you feel strongly about a cause and are working towards a change, you could be considered an activist. An activist is anyone who is fighting for change in society.

Thanks Google.

I wanted to talk about social activism this week. A few days ago, I thought about how I could write a really informative blog post. I was going to do a ton of research and share resources that made it really easy to get involved with social change.

I wanted to be like: “Cool, you care about the environment? Me too. Here’s what you can do to help it.”

But after further contemplation, I’m not going to do that. That’s too easy. Instead, I’m going to write a really short blog post.

Instead, I’m going to be like: “Cool, you care about the environment? Do something about it.”

You see, I could share my favorite nonprofits and social change groups as I have in previous posts and there’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, posts like that are super helpful. But this is not one of those posts.

This is a post telling you to figure it out.

Cool, you care about the environment? What are you going to do about it?

I can sit here all day posting organizations to donate to and places to volunteer at but that seems too much like a check list.

Great, I donated to The Sierra Club. My work here is done.

It’s too easy. And you’re too smart to settle at that.

Yes, donate. Please, for the love of all that is charitable, don’t stop giving back to nonprofits that fight for what you believe in. But fight with them. Find creative ways to share the message. Work toward change.

We all have the ability to become social activists beyond our wallets and our personal rants.

Now more than ever, let’s find creative, kind, peaceful ways to make change.

I believe in you.

Let’s go.

Love always,

Liz
